Glad there are some others who understand the basic concept that consumers eat most of any tariff directly. Indirectly? Layoffs and benefits/salary stagnation, lower quality, shrinkflation, and so forth.

I somewhat disagree. If the consumer has the capability to pay higher prices, then yes, tariffs will have an influence on inflation. But if the consumer cannot afford to pay 25% higher prices, then the sale won't happen.

Correct, but then the company doesn't have revenue, will need to lay off people, which means more people searching for a job, which means downward pressure on wages. Or the company could decide to go the way of the enshitification (lower quality, same price). So either you get inflation, or you get deflation. Or you get both in different aspects of life. None of them good.

But can you actually imagine a situation where foreign forces come in to “rescue” protesters, if that was America? As in, Russians and Chinese coming to unilaterally resolve a domestic situation. Even typing this one knows the Americans would not accept that level of help (interference). But it’s definitely different rules for different countries

The Chinese are laughing….. again..

What will China do if the US attacks Iran? Losing Iran would be a strategic loss for China. Or am I wrong?

No1's avatar

I doubt they're going to do something that resembles as "an attack". I think they'll sell stuff to both Iran, Israel AND the US. I also think that Iran will need to ask for help first. If that doesn't happen (like last time, Iran was too ?proud? to do so), neither Russia nor China will do something about it.

Maybe China will restart its tradewar to weaken the US? All I'm seeing are long-term plays for China, not short-term ones. Maybe they will finally Taiwan to divert US' attention? No clue mate.

Why has no bullion bank go under yet? This weekend maybe with silver approaching $100?

No1's avatar

I'm guessing that their positions are not that life-threatening. After all, silver is a small space.

Just look at the underwater bonds in one of the weekly digests. THAT position would kill them instantly if marked to market... Silver is peanuts.

The main problem is not that actually, it's that if enough players stand for delivery, things can get dicey.

I noticed. I'm honored.

Iran is poised for a "maximal" missile strike on Israel.

One might wonder if that includes Israeli nuclear targets or not.

Israel has the Samson Option policy, that it will unleash all nukes on foe and friends alike if it is existentially threatened. It came close to that point during the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

Golda and Moshe were sweating bullets.

Iran can't reasonably take out all Israeli subs with nuclear missiles, so Iran expects to get nuked, but they might soon get nuked anyway...

How much help might Russia and/or China provide in defending against the Israeli nuclear attack?

Would it matter if Iran or Israel attacked first? Russia can turn their air defenses off remotely, as they did with Syria often enough.

Razor's edge and hair-trigger & stuff...

I don't understand why the GOP goes along with this erratic, reactionary behavior of Trump. They should get very nervous about the midterms if this continues.

No1's avatar

You should understand 1 thing: there is only one party. Different flavor, same goals.

Like Putin once said (and I'm paraphrasing here): president is elected, get visited by the men in black, nothing changes.

Well, Russia is all sanctioned to the hilt, the Indians are already pissed off and Zio Don can go for the 3rd TACO 🌮 in a year with China if he's feeling froggy 🐸🐸🤪

Remember all those bonds that have to be rolled over and the preposterous 1/2 trillion increase in the Pentagon budget? Who is supposed to swallow those bonds? 🧐💸💸

Luís Nunes's avatar

Yeah, the FED doesn't seem to want to cooperante and Wall Street can't make money trashing the currency so fast 😅😅👍

I’m not spun up on Iran’s jamming capabilities.. but what if the blackout is being caused by cyber command ..i mean gayforce?

No1's avatar

I think it might be a field test of the Russians/Chinese in a controlled environment. Too many eyes on Ukraine, and too much uncontrolled territory to make it work properly?

Full Armor Farm's avatar

Maybe.. it would be a good place to test
