Not only am I too sober, but No1 owes me for the time I spent down the rabbit hole of whether the Earth is relatively smoother (and/or rounder) than a billiard ball.
Well, well, IF this essay doesn't prove that the "Science" tm, is NOT settled, then I don't know what will! Over time it may be settled. Or not! Thanks for the quick review NO1 of the Rock under our feet.
Also, My memory does serve me well, as I just checked with the ol'd Internet,
the Answer to the Ultimate question of life, the Universe, and Everything is 42.
From the Supercomputer in the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.
I have a friend who is an Electronics wizard, designs and builds custom stereo (and Mono) amplifiers, and is a strong advocate of flat earth. I researched very well (upwards of 8 hours over a month or so) what I could based on his suggestions, and , well, Nothing appeared strongly to support that view in my mind. Also I have known a lot of Ship Captains over the years, and there is nothing to support the math regarding lat and long navigation.. of flat earth idea, etc.. .
The Alphabet agency is strong with this theory.... .
PS, it is Monday mid day here down under, in OZ, and Gold just went over $4400 USD, and just pulled hair back down below. Just sayin'.... methinks the rise of the metals is imminent, and the de-mise of our fiat is as well. Over and out.
". I had an interesting talk the other day with my son about the rock..."
My 36 y/o salesman son was visiting us over the weekend after a company training session in Chicago. One of the participants asked a doctor who was speaking, an abstruse question about bariatric surgery. The doc said that he didn't know because "that is NOT my specialty". My son responded with the correct answer because of his 15 year background in medical device sales. My take away: If you have a medical issue...consult a salesman first. :/
youre right. Its Groundhog day. you reminded me to Churchill last days: "Its all so desperately boring".
Since nature always flees and never shows as itself (according to the pre-socratics) we could dig in about why reality looks so unsubstantial. I coincidentaly gave a new go to Guy Debord's society of spectacle in his filmed version today. Some answers there. Some brutal truths. Leave it for a shiny day.
Regarding the flat earth idiocy, it had very much disappeared after the covid soufflé busted, thanks God. The answer could also have something to do with the spectacle. The owners of the network just need to turn on and off some buttons to steer the public perception towards Gaza or life in Mars. Finally, gold is moving again, but silver ! OMG. Silver should be in the 200s if not more !
One of the many subjects that have attracted my interest over the years is Geophysics. Sounds kind of dry and uninteresting right? Well, it’s anything but, as it raise some very basic questions about our origin as a species, and how common (or not) life is in the universe.
In the course of that study I came across the worlds in collision concept, which as per the above articles, may explain some of the mystery surrounding how our planet was able to support life as we know it, for as long as it took for an intelligent species to emerge and to advance to the point where it could ask those kinds of questions and undertake a search for answers.
As with all scientific theories, nothing is ever carved in stone, but the chain of events given above, along with subsequent other critical events, is probably as close to the truth as we’ll ever get. What stands out in all of this is how unlikely it is that we’re even here, given that the odds are heavily stacked against it, starting with the initial collision.
But first, to put the collision theory on firmer ground:
So the first question is, what are the odds that a collision between proto-Earth and the smaller planet geophysicists call Theia could occur in such a way that the mass of Theia’s iron core was transferred to proto-Earth, while the remnants of the collision formed a moon large enough to cause significant tides in the oceans - oceans that possibly were also contributed by Theia. This is important because without significant tides (solar tides are too small) life probably would never have emerged from the sea where it is thought to have originated. Likewise for the iron core, which generates a magnetic field that protects the planet’s terrestrial life forms from harsh radiation.
Before that can happen however, you need a planet in a stable, not too eccentric orbit that allows water to exist continuously in liquid form. Not only must the orbit be symmetrical, but the rotation period has to be fast enough that the night side of the planet doesn’t freeze solid with each rotation. In addition, the declination of the planet can’t be too extreme, or you get the same problematic temperature differences which manifest as extremes of seasonal temperature beyond which life (on land at least) is impossible.
But for life to emerge from the sea, not only do you need high tides, which create the conditions for marginal oceanic life to make the transition to land, but you need a shielding atmosphere thick enough and a magnetic field strong enough to protect against the solar and cosmic radiation that would otherwise make life on land impossible.
Given the enormous size of the universe, it’s impossible to calculate the odds of all these things coming together in just the right order and proportion to account for what we see today, but it does suggest that they’re fairly long. If that’s the case, it makes our planet all the more unique, in that it may be one of only a few, or perhaps even the only planet where intelligent life has emerged.
I find it fascinating—the extent to which like-minded travelers ponder big questions with remarkable echo. Two of my favorite authors, No1 and Protect & Survive, thought it worth the effort to opine on the biggest question of all—where do we come from, and why are we here?
No1 focused far more intently on the shape of the Earth, which, I must say, provided a most enjoyable read. Protect & Survive focused on Intelligent Design, which is where I ultimately land today, despite enjoying the journey down several tangent rabbit holes.
That said, I am inspired to share my two cents; they are old missives, but perfectly aligned with the topics at hand. I suspect both of you gentlemen might gain a smile or two in glancing through them.
Thank you CTFT - for your kind reference indicating that we are indeed on the same page. Your links are worth the time to read - the truth is out there, disguised as 'scientism' and few, if any, will penetrate the depths of this thing called life on planet earth.
This enigmatic number,42, seems to hold the secrets of the universe, whispering hints of cosmic balance and harmony. It was not chosen by chance in the Hitch-hiker’s guide.
I love how you lined this all out for me, very entertaining. I had no idea there were so many different (crazy) ideas on this. I believe its a lumpy rock but debating that with a flat earther is tiresome. Im just left asking why it matters so much. What I want to know is why everyone thinks the planets revolve around the sun! Everybody should be able to see that the Earth is clearly the center of the universe!
Greg, it matters because a flat earth theory proven to be valid will automatically disprove Evolution and imply Creation (living in an enclosed space under a dome)
But the flat-or-not point is already moot, as the Evolution through Natural Selection was already recently debunked through MATH:
Don't judge our Earth, or a book, by the its' surface. It's what's deep in the middle that really matters. The poor atom that was assigned to occupy the precise center of Earth's mass took a right hook eons ago. Ever since he has been struggling to get back but to No1's surprise he has never returned. That's not a big deal, however that tiny change caused the net pull of gravity on the next nearest atoms to shift outward. Each one of them developed an attraction to the mass directly opposite to the space because while each side had the same exact mass, in one direction it was one atom closer. Soon it became two atoms closer, then three. One by one, the outward migration accelerated.
It was utter chaos for the first two eons.
When it all settled out there remained a void, perpetually cloaked. And very hot!
I'm too sober for this article, No. 1.
😂 ... hit the pub!
Not the kind of drugs I'd need.
Not only am I too sober, but No1 owes me for the time I spent down the rabbit hole of whether the Earth is relatively smoother (and/or rounder) than a billiard ball.
Well, I had some numbers for that and the earth would be thrown out immediately. A billiard ball has to be something like 1/12th of a perfect sphere.
Yeah now I'm going down that.
Well, well, IF this essay doesn't prove that the "Science" tm, is NOT settled, then I don't know what will! Over time it may be settled. Or not! Thanks for the quick review NO1 of the Rock under our feet.

Join the flat earth society. We have members all over the globe !
Love it!
I enjoyed Larry Niven’s novel Ringworld, thanks for the reminder :-)
Me too, but I read it so long ago, I only remember I liked it.

That was embarrassing for that guy! And if he wasn't, he should have been!
“We all know by now that that’s 43.”
No1 is trying to Berenstein us.

You did that on purpose, to bamboozle us, didn't you, typing that the answer to everything is 43, when we all know it's 42!
And anyway, it's turtles all the way down ...

Ellie: Dad, do you think there's people on other planets?
Dad: I don't know, Sparks. But I guess I'd say if it is just us... seems like an awful waste of space.
"Dad, do you think there's people on other planets?"
Only on the flat ones honey. The round ones are uninhabitable.
